Is Zakat payable on gold that is not for investment purposes?
I always advise to pay zakat on the gold and silver whether you wear it regularly or whether you don't wear it regularly, whether you keep it. Regardless, pay the zakat on it which is the safe of you. Why? Because there's a hadith collected by Imam Abu Dawud where Aisha r.a went to the Prophet s.a.w. and she was wearing silver rings. And so the Prophet s.a.w. said to her, have you paid zakat on it? Has zakat been paid? And she said no. And so the Prophet s.a.w. said that this is sufficient as a share in Jahannam, meaning if you haven't paid zakat on that particular jewellery. So this is the safe of you. There is a second view which mentions that you wouldn't have to pay zakat on it. However, I always advise to go on the safe view of this particular aspect. And remember that whenever you pay and you give money for the sake of Allah, Allah will return it to you many, many times. So don't worry about that particular aspect. Your rizq is written. But be on the safe side and pay the zakat.
