Can you wipe on cotton socks for wudu?

So in the Hanbali madhab yes you can wipe over your cotton socks as long as the socks cover your foot and ankle they're not extremely thin meaning that transparent that water would seep through then yes you could do that. That's because the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam is narrated in a hadith to have wiped over his socks that were not leather. There is however a difference of opinion on the authenticity of this hadith and another hadith which is why the other madahib they say that.
