What is the ruling on wearing perfume?
So for females, the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam mentioned very specifically in a hadith collected by Muslim and Abu Dawud that if she leaves the house and has perfume on her and is smelt by non-mahram then she is such and such meaning an adulteress, so it's a really strong prohibition. Now why is the prohibition there? It's there as a general notion for females when leaving the house. It's not specific just for perfume but it's for anything that would attract undue attention, whether that be in terms of your clothing, whether it be in terms of undue attention due to the let's say amount of makeup somebody uses, or in this case particularly the perfume. So if you are going in outside of your house and you may be potentially encountering non-mahrams, then for females it will not be allowed. There's no difference of opinion on this issue that I'm aware of based on this particular hadith. The hadith is authentic. If you're going, let's say an environment is all female or in your own home, then no problem with that. Deodorants and things like that they're generally fine, but this specifically refers to perfume.
