Does gold given to me by my husband's family after khul‘ have to be returned according to Hanafi fiqh?

So if there's a khula, what's returned is the mahr. Anything which is a gift, which is not the mahr in and of itself, does not need to be returned. If you want to return it, you can. But specifically speaking, Islamically, if it's not the mahr, if it's a gift, it does not need to be returned.
