Family & Marriage
Can a husband stop his wife from going to a friend's place in a halal environment with no reason given?
So marriage is not black and white. It is really important that we understand this. In Islam it provides principles as to how a married couple are able to facilitate the best for them in this life and in the next. And it should be like a Shura, which means that you have a conversation, have a discussion, discuss exactly what's going on, where you're going, timing, etc., and then you make a decision together. And if there is a dispute, then yes, Islam has made that there is only one captain of the ship, which is the husband. But in that, he has a responsibility and he is answerable to Allah for these decisions as well. And if there is any injustice, then he will be answerable to Allah. So it is really important that that process, that's the key thing, the process of having that discussion, making sure there are no unreasonable decisions that are being made, takes place. And after that, if there are still issues, you can always involve a third party, whether it be a family member, a scholar, Islamic counsel. And if all of that fails, then remember that Allah is the most just. You will see justice in this life or you will see it in the next.
