As soon as the husband dies, the wife is in her iddah period, and that is 4 months and 10 days based on Surah Baqarah, verse 234, which is what Allah mentions. Now, during the iddah period, the general principle is that she stays in the marital household. That's out of respect for the deceased husband, for example. So she would not be leaving the household during this time period. Now, she would be allowed to leave for certain necessities. For example, she has to work, or she has to get some food and there is no other option. Then for necessities, she would be allowed to do that. However, in terms of attending the husband's funeral, the husband's janazah, according to the overall majority of scholars, this would not come under what is known as a necessity. So she would not be leaving the house to attend the janazah. In the Malik-e school, there is an exception, and they do permit it. However, according to the majority, this would not come under what is known as a necessity.
