The majority of scholars permit one qurbani animal for the entire household, while the Hanafi school requires a separate animal for each eligible individual. qurbani, sacrifice, household, hanafi, fiqh rulings, obligation https://www.youtube.com/shorts/XtueXO5CpRw
According to the majority of scholars, a husband could perform just one animal qurbani with the intention of that animal also being for his wife and his children, those of his household. That's based on the hadith of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam in Sahih Muslim where he slaughtered a ram and it's also mentioned that he said that it is on behalf of himself, behalf of his family, meaning one animal but the intention was for other people as well. And so that's the majority view of scholars. In the Hanafi madhab, it's a bit more specific. They say that anybody who is eligible to perform a qurbani then it's obligatory on them and it must be an individual animal per person. So a husband, if they pay zakat normally, he would need to do a qurbani for himself, and a wife if she normally pays zakat then she would also need to do a separate animal for herself. So that's the two views: the view of the majority, a husband could perform just one animal but with the intention of it all being for his children, so that's the majority view.
