How do we keep our minds attentive to what we're saying during the salah?
So this is a great question. So when I go to universities, often I ask this question. I say, what was the most common surah that you think people recite after Surah Fatiha? And nearly everybody says Surah Ikhlas. And then I ask a second question, which is, why was Surah Ikhlas revealed? And nobody knows. And this shows as an example as to one of the issues we have with Salah, that if we don't know why we are saying something, what it means that we are saying, it's difficult to attach your heart to the Salah. So I always suggest looking up the Tafsir, and it's only taking a few minutes in terms of Surah Fatiha, Surah Ikhlas, or any of the short surahs that you normally recite. When you understand why you're reciting it, what it means, and why we are doing certain things, it will really help attach your heart to the Salah.
