Do duas in sujood have to be in Arabic?
The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said in Sahih Bukhari أَقْرَبُ مَا يَكُونَ الْعِبْدَةِ The closest a person is to Allah is when they're in sujood فَأَكْثِرُوا So increase your dua in sujood. Now there is a difference of opinion because let's say you're praying and you don't know Arabic and you make dua in a foreign language, say English, French, whatever the language may be. Now is that permissible? This is where the scholars differ. Some scholars say because it's something foreign to the salah, it would break the salah. Other scholars say no, it's fine. So what I normally advise is to stay out of the difference of opinion to act upon the hadith, make dua in any language that you want. Ask Allah for anything that you want but do it in your sunnah prayers, in your nafil prayers, in the supererogatory prayers and keep your fard just specifically for Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. That way you know you're acting upon the hadith and you're keeping your fard safe meaning you have nothing to worry about and you're out of any difference of opinion about your fard being valid.
