Can you be exempt from fasting with mental health?
So the general ruling is that, as Allah mentioned in Surah Baqarah, فَمَنْ كَنَ مِنْكُمْ مَرِيدًا Whoever has a condition, whether that be physical health or mental health, that is significantly worsened or deteriorates because of fasting. So we're not talking about fasting just being generally difficult. Yes, it may not be easy, not eating and drinking for a certain amount of hours. But if it has a detrimental effect on one's health, whether that be physical or mental, then yes, you would be exempt. But I would suggest that if it's a physical or mental difficulty that you're going through, you definitely speak to your medical practitioner or GP and so on beforehand, just to clarify with them and discuss it with them as well. It may be that you may be able to fast the shorter days, let's say in the wintertime instead of these particular days. And that's also an option in order to make them up.
